Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education College of Family and Consumer Sciences
The University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS). FACS faculty and students study and apply the principles of design and business, and the sciences and technologies to develop healthier people and thriving communities through more effective educators and a high-tech global workforce. More than 70 faculty, 1,400 undergraduates and 200 graduate students are involved in teaching, research and outreach programs in the fields of child and family development; foods and nutrition; housing and consumer economics; and textiles, merchandising and interiors.
The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education (AD) will provide leadership and coordination in two key areas for the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. The first area of concentration will be in the research and scholarly activities for the College. The second area is in providing leadership in the support of graduate education efforts for the College. The AD reports directly to the Dean of FACS.
Applicants must have maintained a significant funded research program in disciplines related to FACS, preferably at a land-grant research university. A doctoral degree is required; either a PhD in a FACS related discipline or an EdD and qualifications that would satisfy the appointment as a tenured professor. Applicants must have attained the rank of Professor and demonstrated successful scholarship, instruction, outreach, and administration. Relevant experience should include most if not all of the following: publication in prominent peer-reviewed journals, primary mentorship of graduate students who have been awarded research degrees, mentorship of faculty seeking research opportunities, participation on grant review committees, organizational leadership, and knowledge of pre-award and post-award processes relating to funded research, including research compliance issues.
The AD will provide leadership and coordination of the research and graduate education activities of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Priorities will include establishing programs and infrastructure to support faculty research activity, facilitating college-wide research programs, expanding intra-institutional and external collaborations, overseeing GA Agriculture Experiment Station funds in FACS and its reporting systems, and, in general, increasing the breadth and depth of research and scholarship within FACS. The incumbent will supervise an administrative staff and a Grants Coordinator. Some classroom teaching will be expected.
In addition, the Associate Dean will:
- Collaborate with the Vice President for Research and the Office of Sponsored Programs to secure grants and contracts, which build capacity and provide direct delivery of contracted services.
- Collaborate with the FACS Development and External Relations and UGA Foundation to communicate and raise private funds that help carry out the mission of FACS research programs.
- Demonstrate commitment to actively increasing the diversity of the faculty and staff.
- Lead a team of committed Graduate Coordinators and other staff supporting our academic programs, and fostering successful graduate student experiences.
- Execute programmatic and fiscal responsibilities of the college with particular emphasis on facilities and technology to aid research and scholarship.
